Kato Stalos, which is the seaside area of the Stalos village, has a fantastic sandy beach. The beach is well organized and provides all the possible services for guests. For this reason, the beach is awarded every year with a Blue Flag Award.

According to a myth, Stalos was named after ‘Talo’, the giant who made the tour of Crete three times a day and protected it. It is said that, mythical Talos had his home in the area of today’s Stalos. However, a second stronger view argues that Stalos was named after the Ottoman rule when the Ottoman landowners sent their sheep to the area, gathering them for rest under the shade of the trees in the area before carrying them in the neighboring Galatas for milking.
